When you’re newly engaged, your world is full of checklists. Start collecting inspiration photos. Decide on a budget. Book the venue, followed by Vendor A, Vendor B, Vendor C … and so on and so on and so on. Check, check, check, checkity check.
That approach will get you from here to there, and probably produce a wedding as pretty as the pictures you’ve been collecting.
Pretty, but maybe not very personal.
At Honeysuckle Events, we’re big believers in a different approach. We’ll absolutely help you navigate through all the decisions, manage the logistics, and ensure that your day flows exactly as you’ve dreamed. That’s a given. More importantly, though, we approach your wedding as a way to tell your unique story as a couple, infused with meaning in every detail. Before we ever start planning, we want to know all about you: your favorite relationship stories, hobbies, passions, quirks, and — especially — what makes your eyes light up.What sets us apart is our ability to help you translate those wisps and fragments into tangible components of your day that you can see, hear, touch, taste and remember for the rest of your lives. We help your ideas find expression in every decision made, from the design of your stationery to the selection of your ceremony readings, the way you design your tablescapes, and even what you put on your feet.
We’re detail-obsessed planners with a gift for design, and our passion is making each wedding a truly one-of-a-kind celebration that speaks to you and about you.
Enter Amanda and Justin.
Over the course of our first meeting with these two, we learned that Amanda grew up on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, with family vacations in Ocean City, Maryland and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. She spent countless summer afternoons in her grandmother’s garden and loves scrapbooking and paper crafts. A lover of all things 1940s, from fashion to movies to music, she recently signed herself and Justin up for swing dance lessons.Having grown up in a small town in northeastern Ohio, Justin’s a diehard baseball fan and considers himself a “collector” of roller coaster rides, planning whole vacations around amusement park visits. With a grin, he says he asked Amanda to marry him just before the first drop on Cedar Point’s Mean Streak wooden roller coaster.
Teasing all that out was the first step.
The next was narrowing our focus. We had to figure out which elements could be tied together by a common thread while letting go of others. And that’s where inspiration — dressed as vintage boardwalk — struck. Ferris wheels and carousels. Suspenders and tea-length dresses. Salt water taffy colors.
We imagined tables named for classic coasters, centerpieces anchored by miniature carousels, boutonnieres crafted of handmade paper pinwheels, and an expanded version of Amanda andJustin’s roller coaster scrapbook as a guest book. The Pearl and the Petal on the Carolina Beach boardwalk set the scene perfectly, invoking the energy of the Swing Era with a modern day twist. As the vision began to take shape, we expanded our focus to include a variety of ‘40s touches. We sourced Depression glass and vintage china, poured over photos of Grandma’s garden for floral inspiration, tracked down flowery prints for the bridesmaids’ dresses, and found T-strap heels for Amanda.
The rest was magic.
