Since their launch almost ten years ago, Life Stage Films has worked with over eight hundred families and couples throughout the United States and various destinations abroad. Matt Davis, owner and lead filmmaker, shares his enthusiasm for the wedding experience and answers questions about exactly what it takes to put together one of Life Stage’s extraordinary videos.
When couples sit down with you for the first time, what can they expect?
“We don’t just send a price sheet. We like to get to know our couples and get to know their stories. We have a questionnaire that asks the couple what their favorite music is and what their favorite songs and movies are. Are they beer drinkers or wine drinkers? It helps us get to know them, but we want to make sure we’re a right fit, too.”
How do you coordinate with other wedding vendors, like photographers, to ensure smooth sailing during the event?
“We’ve been doing this for awhile now, which means we have a good working relationship with a lot of people in town. Our style goes together well with certain people, so a lot of times a wedding planner will call us and say, “Hey, we have a couple that we think you’d really like to work with,” and everything comes together really well.”
What is it about a video that helps tell a couple’s story?
“Film tells a couple’s story in a way that words and photography can’t. Audio is so important to recreate the experience. We’re not going to give you a bunch of clips with a song dubbed over them. We use the vows, the toasts, the things you really want to remember.”
How does Life Stage set itself apart?
“The way we put our video and audio together, it’s almost like creating a new path in people’s brains. We work to create something totally unique, where the focus isn’t just on the wedding; it’s on the entire experience.”
